Planning my "capsule"

I'm still trying to decide what my 10 piece capsule wardrobe for the next 5 days is going to include! This is my current thinking:

1. Red dress
2. Black dress
3. Black drapey Cardigan
4. Black long-sleeved t-shirt
5. White shirt
6. Black Jumper
7. Black trousers
8. Black skirt
9. Black boots
10. Black shoes

Rather a large amount of black there!

I thought I'd then introduce colour with my allotted 5 accessories:

1. Next silver and multi coloured beads
2. My handbag (which I don't usually see as an accessory, but counts as one for this challenge)
3. Purple beads
4. Red belt
5. Earrings (I wear the same pair all the time, but will count them anyway)

Tights dont count as an item either, so I'll definitely be playing with whacky tights to add a bit of interest over the week too!

Oh well, here we go!

27th February - Contrary!

Yesterday was "wear it red" day, I wore purple.

Today it's the weekend - "wear whatever you please" day - and I wear red!

I wouldn't normally wear a v-neck with something round neck, but I'm thinking this looks alright?

Jumping on the Band Wagon

The lovely Amber has been using formspring. me for a couple of weeks, and I was significantly intrigued to have a proper look today.

The eagle-eyed amongst you may notice a new "ask me anything" box over on the left <--- (arrow there for those of you who, like me, have to think about which is left and right!)

So, to ask me anything, and I mean *anything* (although I reserve the right to refuse to answer!) just type in the box!

Interesting questions will be repeated here - all questions (if I get any!) can be reviewed here.

I look forward to hearing from you!

26th February - "Wear it Red" dress down day

Our dress down Fridays at work will have a "wear it red" theme for the time being, due to the new Hospital "Heart 2 Heart" Appeal.

Today was the inaugural "wear it red day"

Can you see how I embraced it?! I decided that it was a dress down day and I wanted to wear my supremely comfortable purple dress.

Everyone else wore red jumpers, belts, ties, cardigans, shirts - the department was awash with red!

Red earrings! And some red stripey socks hidden away under my boots!

I paid my £1 anyway, I don't suppose they'll quibble!

Count me in for the Capsule Wardrobe Challenge!

For the 5 weekdays next week I will be attempting to manage my work outfits from 10 items, and five accessories, as I'm planning on taking part in the Spring Capsule Wardrobe Challenge!

The rules are:

Choose ten items of clothing from your wardrobe and mix and match them for five days between Monday March 1st and Friday March 5th.
You can have any combination of shoes, dresses, skirts, tops and jackets as long as it adds up to ten individual items.
You are also allowed five accessories which include jewellery, scarves, bag, belts etc.
Underwear and hosiery do not come under the ten items and five accessories!

My wardrobe is certainly a lot less extensive than a lot of bloggers, and I tend to recycle stuff alot anyway, so I'm hoping it's not going to be too much of a challenge! This time next week I might well be regretting that statement!

I'm planning to add a bit of colour to an otherwise black and white pallet with coloured tights, but I'm a bit concerned that'll be cheating a bit, as tights aren't included in the challenge!

I currently have a list of items scribbled out on the back of a Boden catalogue in my bedroom - tomorrow I may well have a go at laying it all out the bed and sharing!

And why do Boden keep sending me a catalogue? I've never bought anything full price from them, and haven't even purchased any sale items for years!

25th February - that too small cardigan again!

I had a planned outfit today based on a ring my Mum picked up for me yesterday, until I remembered I was giving blood today so trousers and an easily slip-off-able top was the order of the day!

As someone suggested last time I wore this cardigan, I wore a chunky bracelet to try and hide the slightly too short sleeves!

24th February - Waistcoat and Trousers

I was running a training session in front of about 30 people yesterday, so I wanted something easy to wear but smart!

23rd February - Negative!

I've been watching too much America's Next Top Model! (and then forgetting "face"). I think tomorrow I'll go back to the dull "normal" poses! lol!

So yesterday it was a black dress with a red belt, today I thought I'd reverse it and do the red dress with the black belt!

This dress is jersey, and soooo comfortable!

22nd February - "Dramatic"

I was obviously feeling a bit excitable while taking my pictures this morning!

The only comment I got on my outfit today was that the red and black was "very dramatic" - I was feeling quite dramatic today, obviously, so quite appropriate perhaps!

18th February - normal service resumes

Except it doesn't, quite, as the battery went flat on the camera before I could take a second shot!

Please 'scuse the mess, which is going to get worse. We've had a leak under our flooring and the whole lot is being pulled up tomorrow afternoon :-(

Out of town...

I am having a couple of days in Plymouth visiting my sister with my Mum and the girls. All I have in my suitcase are my skinnies and a black jumper or my holey jumper dress, or my purple dress and leggings. All to be worn with my flat black boots, which, given the rain I can hear bashing against the hotel window right now, I hope are waterproof!

I won't be posting pics while I'm here, as you've seen everything before!

If you want to keep up to date with my daily ramblings (of which there are many!) why not follow me on Twitter by clicking on the link over here <==== somewhere :-)

Play nicely! Normal service will resume shortly.....

OK then.....

Yeaterday's post resulted in 4 "bad" votes - but what I need to know from you guys is is that a general "no" to foot tattoos, a "no" to tattoos in general, or a "no" to that particular tattoo?

Thank you!

Saturday, 13 February 2010

Foot tattoo or not to tattoo, that is the question!

For a while I've been thinking about getting a gecko tattooed on my foot. Yesterday I found out my "tattoo buddy" who I went with last time was having similar thoughts (she's after getting a dragonfly), so this morning I'd thought i'd have a play to see what it might look like!

Please don't panic people - this is not an actual tattoo, this is just me doodling with my liquid eyeliner to gauge size and positioning! (and please excuse the fact I need to redo my toenail varnish!)

What do you think?

12th February - Same as yesterday!

Today I wore the same as yesterday, so felt no need to bother you with photos. Today I actually managed to stay at work for my whole 4 hours, rather than the 2 minutes I managed yesterday. Today my house did not spring a leak. Today is Friday, and I'm not back at work until next Thursday.

Today is a good day!

And instead of just giving you nothing today, I wanted to share the lovely Amber's tale of Wardrobe Malfunction - just because I laughed so hard I cried when I read it! Thank you for sharing Amber!

11th February - Purple Jumper Dress and Trousers

This is what I wore for work today. For the 2 minutes I spent at work.

We've suspected we've had a leak in our central heating system for about a week, and this morning we had the builder round to take off the skirting in preparation for lifting the laminate floor to look under the floorboards - only to find the laminate was bubbling up - and there was our leak!

The plumber phoned precisely 2 minutes after I arrived at work to say he could come straight round, so I put my coat back on and headed straight home again!

So you get to vote on an outfit before I actually give it a proper airing at work - you might save me from myself!

10th February - The Case of the Mysterious Shrinking Cardigan.....

In my head this looked so much better.

In reality I think it looks a little bit like I got caught in a boil wash on my way to work, and the cardi suffered severe shrinkage!

Thoughts please - good or bad!

The colour in the second shot is the realistic one, in case you were wondering.

9th February - Purple Pattern

Firstly, thank you for all your comments on yesterday's post - it seems I didn't look as bad as I felt, and lots of tips on how to make it better.

Today we had the plumber arriving early, so I just popped something quick and unstructured on - this top is a comfy jersey material.

8th February - Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear

Not felt good about this outfit at all today!

So I'm going to grant you a comment-free "bad" vote if you so wish!

I'm really not quite sure what's wrong with it, so any comments will, as always, be gratefully received!

Cardi: Sainsburys (a present from my Mum and probably a size smaller than I would buy myself, resulting in the sleeves being too short!)

A plea!

The whole point of my blog is to try and improve my outfits, it says it in the side bar, I've said it here many times.

I appreciate that some of you don't like some of my outfits, I aim at worst to be "indifferent", but I truly appreciate that sometimes people will think than an outfit is "bad".

All I ask, and I seriously want to know, is that if you're leaving a "bad" vote, please just leave a comment to say why you feel it is "bad", to give me a chance to do something about it!

Obviously I prefer constructive criticism rather than "you're a complete fuddy duddy, get over yourself and stop using up Internet space" type comments, but I'd really like to know, as I do take notice of the ratings on this blog, and try and improve my outfits - but I need your feedback peeps!

Obviously I'm only human and I like nice comments too, so please feel free to offer up complements too if you feel I deserve them! Lol!

With that I shall let you return to your Sunday! As you were..... (just with more comments, please!)

6th February - Comfy Saturday

I'm desperately trying to not to "impulse shop" at the moment as we have a lot of expenses happening at home right now, so I''m steering clear of shops if I can help it, but I saw this dress in Next about 3 weeks ago, then saw someone wearing something very similar in grey last weekend, and decided to treat myself!

I know I swore I'd never wear leggings again, but I decided that under something that I'd wear with tights they'd be fine!

The colour hasn't come up very well in the pictures, but it's a lovely purple cotton jersey (less blue than the detail picture).

Leggings: M&S (I found some lovely thick ones in the kids section - these are an age 14 I bought for Rhian and have stolen!)

5th February - 2 outfits in 1! Dress AND Trousers

A Dress, and Trousers! How very daring of me lol!

Well, perhaps not for a lot of you out there, but bearing in mind that my "drab and go" outfit from yesterday was identical to my 3 colleagues (except we all had different colour V neck jumpers on), today's outfit is quite "out there" for work!

But I'm not afraid (anymore!). I am who I am, and who I am needs no explaining...... or whatever the words are!

4th February - Melt Down Mum!

Be warned, this is what you end up wearing when you don't plan ahead and have a 9 year old who has spent all morning belly-aching about her hair, her PE Kit (or lack of it!), her hair (again), losing her school skirt (which had been in the middle of the floor 30 seconds earlier - still nowhere to be seen!), her PE Kit, her hair, her shoes etc. etc. etc.

I've had to take these photos now I'm home - there wasn't even time for that this morning!

Jumper and Trousers: Dorothy Perkins
Boots: Barretts

I've already got a plan for tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be looking a little less "grab and go"!

3rd February - Asymmetric Black and Purple

A slightly different colour scheme with the dress today - these beads were my work "Secret Santa" present - and my initially reaction was a bit "eek", and they've hung around with me not wearing them, but actually I really liked them today! Up close and personal I think they look a bit "cheap", but as part of an outfit I now think they look just fine! (apologies if my Secret Santa reads this!).

The ring was a gift that Rhian bought me back from her German exchange. I love the look of it, but this was the first time I could tie it into an outfit. It has such a lot going on with it (each bead is attached individually to the band), that I feel it needs to go with a very simple outfit. As it was, I was walking through the corridors today on my way in, and saw someone looking stunning in a very simple black/lime/white outfit, and suddenly felt too "put together", so I whipped it off and stuck it in my coat pocket!

2nd February - Work outfit

I'm hoping I've solved my trouser problem! I think my old trousers were too short (despite them being a Tesco "long")

Rhian is also "long of leg" and was finding her school trousers were ankle flapping, so I bought her a pair of Dorothy Perkins "long", and ordered myself a pair while I was at it! (2 pairs for £25).

What do you think?

And as to how tall I am - various guesses, no one quite on the money though, but all in the right ballpark. I'm 5 foot 6! So a couple of inches above "average", but I'm very (very!) short waisted, making up for it in the leg department - hence having to buy "long" trousers! (these are particularly long though!). Rhian has just grown taller than me, and has plenty of growing left to do, so no doubt I'll be shopping at Dorothy Perkins "Tall" for her before she's done!
