26th October - red and black

Well this was the view from my bedroom window this morning! How beautiful was that!

Unfortunately it didn't last, and by 8 it was pouring with rain, and it didn't stop all day!

The red skirt/black jumper made a revisit today, with diamond pattern tights, and my daisy pendant from Greenwich Market.

Weekend Wear - A day out in Battersea Park

Not the best outfit shots, but arty non-the-less! More photos from our day out with my sister (who lives just 2 minutes from the beautiful Battersea Park in London) are on Rhian's photoblog.

Hello Pretty Thing......

Ever go shopping for something innocuous (like a vase as a housewarming present for your sister) and come out with something so pretty that once you'd clamped eyes on it there was no way it wasn't going to be coming home with you?

I even tried to distract myself by buying a red and silver saucepan, but the pretty red and proper metally silvery bits top called to me from it's rail.

I am going to justify it by telling myself I can wear it to a 40th meal out, over skinnies and my high-heeled boots, in a couple of week's time, and a retirement do I'm going to at the end of December!

Welcome to my wardrobe little red and spangly silver top! That's it, I must stay out of TKMaxx forever more!

22nd October - Trying to find pose inspiration

I didn't get a chance to take my pictures before work this morning, so, having the house to myself for a moment between getting home from work and kiddies arriving home, I decided to try something different!

I started with a classic Shoegal pose - it works for her, not so much for me!

Then I had a go at Already Pretty Sal's oft used "leg out" pose - I need to practise!

I finally resorted to my usual "self conscious" "slightly awkward" "how long 'til the blinking timer is going to go off" "I'm getting the giggles I'm so ridiculous" pose!

21st October - Deathly Dull!

Well, even I would vote "indifferent" for today's outfit! I had to rush out of work to get to my blood donation session on time, so I needed lower heeled shoes, and I needed short sleeves, and something not too short so I wasn't going to flash my legs when I lay down!

I did actually manage to donate blood today, which I am very happy about, as the last 2 times I've been my iron levels have been slightly too low.

I think the i am.... boutique scarf and red coat cheered the whole ensemble up - and I needed it this morning - minus 4!!!

Anyone want to join me?

Planning a little challenge here - "Dress-cember"

My aim is to wear as many dresses as possible in December - and at least to wear a dress to work every day.

Now, I don't actually have enough dresses to wear a different dress everyday, but I pledge to wear it differently each time.

I know it's a long way off - but anyone want to join me? (I will remind you nearer the time!)

20th October - another grey day!

Grey seems to be a bit of a wardrobe trend for me at the moment - makes a change from black, I suppose!

One of my parcels proved to be a little bit disappointing - I won a couple of dresses on ebay, and they're not quite what I was expecting (or, actually, they don't fit me quite as I was expecting!). They were dirt cheap, so it's no desperate biggy, and I'm not writing them off entirely yet, I just need to find ways of working with them!

My other parcel yesterday was a fabulous blend striped scarf from i am.... boutique - Aimee (from things a boutique owner sees) has recently started trading online, and the service was fantastic - items are posted the same day if ordered before 2.30 (and postage is free in the UK, and only £4.50 for international orders), and arrived beautifully packaged. The scarf is bound to make an appearance here soon (if I can keep it out of reach of the girls - both of them surreptitiously asked this morning "what scarf are you wearing today Mum?" and then huffed a bit when I said "the stripey one") - it's fantastic, huge and soft and warm :-)

Aww, go on - here's a sneak peak! (I'd left it on anyway - heating doesn't come on until 3, and it's freezing today!). It is the longest scarf I own - here it is wrapped 3 times round my neck, and the tied up - if I just pop it around my neck without any wrapping it comes to my knees - and I'm 5 foot 6!

19th October - Grey Dress and Plum

Today was altogether calmer - except I my Small, who decided that her bags were too heavy (they were quite) to walk to school with, so was hankering after a lift, hence my distracted look in the second photo, and slightly pained expression in the first - I was probably being told "we've GOT to GO!"!

And the sun was shining, which helped in someways with my "dark photo" issues, but I'd forgotten about the shadows! I will keep working on finding the right spot!

I bought some grey tights the other day, with the express purpose of wearing them with this dress, but you can barely see them with the boots!

And I got 2 parcels today - expect a few new items over the next couple of days :-)

18th October - dress, brogues and pink!

Things were not calm in our house this morning - a mixture of a teenager with pmt, a perma-grump 10 year old, me (!) and S, who is absolutely NOT a morning person lead to a rather fraught time!

I therefore didn't get as much pondering time in front of the wardrobe as normal, and in the end I grabbed the first things which came to hand!

17th October - Annual Inspection

R had her Annual Inspection at Air Cadets today, so I had to wear something a little bit smarter than my normal weekend attire!

I also wanted something comfy, as we'd had a bit of a late night on Saturday, having a great night in with some good friends :-)

I also need to fiddle with the white balance on the camera again - I've finally tidied up the space you see behind me here, so I can go back to taking photos without the sun streaming through the window behind me, but it's far darker back here!

16th October - Weekend Wear

I don't often post on the weekend, and normally becuase this is the sort of thing I live in! Jeans are pretty much standard wear!

Today I am just tidying up around the house, as we have friends over for dinner tonight, and the house has got into a bit of a state recently - so it's tidy up time!

Had to pop down to the supermarket to get the ingredients for dinner (S is cooking his trademark Chilli), and I decided to pop on the brogues rather than reach for my more usual boots - I'm not entirely convinced that was the right decision!

Interesting Stats!

I found some interesting stats of mine earlier today.

When I started my weight loss exercise in July 2008 my waist was 33 inches, hips 40 and I was wearing a 36 inch bra on it's biggest setting.

By the October I had lost 2.5 stone, and my waist was 28 inches and my hips were 36 inches, and I was between a 32 and 34 inch bra size (loosest/tightest fitting respectively!)

Now, 2 years on, and a lot fitter than I was, but half a stone heavier than when I finished, my stats are:

Waist 26.5 inches (!), hips 36 inches, and I'm still somewhere between a 32 and 34 inch bra!

I'm well chuffed that my waist has shrunk, despite being heavier - I hadn't realised that, so the exercise I'm doing must really be paying off!

I also found this terrible picture the other day - this was actually from 3 years ago, when I was half a stone heavier than when I properly started trying to shift the weight for good - and I thought I looked good at the time.

I'm posting this picture here as people often say "oh, you don't need to watch what you eat", or "you're slim, you're lucky" - but I'm not lucky - this photo is proof of what can happen if I don't watch what I eat, and if I don't exercise reguarly.

I am so much happier in my body now than I was then, as well as being so much more confident about my clothes.

15th October - dress and brogues

I suspect you may get a tad bored of seeing variations on this theme over the winter!

Describe your Style in 3 Words

Last month's issue of Red magazine (I'm playing catch up!) had a very interesting article about defining your style in 3 words, and then re-looking at your wardrobe to make sure it fits your style definitions.

Since reading the article I've been trying to think of 3 words to describe my style, and on my way in to work this morning I finally settled on 3 words that I think work for my current wardrobe inclinations!

Simple

I like to keep my clothes simple these days. I love the way other people accessorise, add bits and pieces to outfits, and generally bling up an outfit, but I don't think it's for me. Clean lines, no fuss, no nonsense - that's more my "style". I'll pop on a necklace, but I tend to put things on then immediately remove them as they feel too "fussy".

Comfortable

I've never been one for high structure, restrictive clothes. I like to be able to move in my clothes. My wardrobe features a lot of jersey for this very reason!

Quirky

Slightly out of the ordinary with a nod to the latest trends - I don't want to be wearing the same as everyone else, I like to stand out a bit from the rest of the crowd . I like my hair to have edges, rather than full on "edgy".

What do you think? An accurate reflection? Are there any other (non rude!) words you'd use?

What 3 words would you use to describe your style?

(edited following Sheila's comment - the last word is still open for debate!)

14th October - Black and Red

A classic black and red outfit today, which was a rather popular one at work, with 3 of us sport very similar looks! One lady even had exactly the same skirt as me - although I was rather smug that I had bought mine in the sale for half the cost of hers ;-)

13th October - Asymmetric Dress

Flicking through some older posts looking for some inspiration, and I came across this dress - so I dug it out of the wardrobe where it had sunk right towards the bit in the wardrobe which is really hard to reach (I've got double sliding doors, and the doors don't open properly, so the bit in the middle is a bit of a mystery!)

There's a lot of fabric in the skirt, and I always feel very swishy whenever I wear it!

Check out Rhian's New Blog

Rhian, my eldest, is currently hoping to become a photographer. She's pulled together a blog here to showcase her work - why not hop on over and have a look, and leaver her a comment. She's very open to any hints or tips :-)

Thank you!

12th October - It's All Going On!

Sorry!

I've been playing with blog designs this evening, so apologies to anyone who's dropped by while I've been trying different things out.

I'll leave it with this wacky background (red/white/blue - in case I've changed it before you get to read this!) - what do think? Too distracting?

11th October - Purple and White

Another warm sunny day today here! I was going to wear a dress and footless tights, but my search for my footless tights was fruitless this morning, so trousers it was!

I'd forgotten how much I like the purple/white combination - and I added an extra twist with these lacey purple socks with my new shoes too!

8th October - excuse me!

Excuse me summer - where did you come back from!?!

Today we had temperatures back up in the 20's (which I know for a lot of you isn't very hot, but here in the UK it's warmer than most of August this year!).

So I shed the tights, bought the dress back from the "summer side" of my wardrobe, and headed out to enjoy the sunshine!

It's only supposed to last for the weekend, then we're heading back to more normal temperatures next week, so this is a one-day-only look!

7th October - Lumpy!

Today I planned this outfit, I wore the girlie pink cardi and delicate glass necklace to balance the more manly bottom half of the outfit. On reviewing these pictures thouse I feel look very lumpy!

Remember I had my colours done a while ago? I decided not to spend £40-odd on a colour swatch at the time (I'd had a free analysis), bearing in mind I'd already bought a book which showed all the colours I could wear. Recently I keep forgetting to take the book with me, and I find myself floundering with different colours sometimes, and tend to head to black in those situations!

Rhian and I decide to cobble together my own swatch, and headed to our local DIY store and picked out a load of paint samples which matched all the colours in my book - we then cut them out, laminated them, hole punched them and stuck a cable-tie through! Hey Presto! My very own, easy to fit in a handbag sized swatch! :-)
