This was not the dress I was planning. I was planning a wrap dress, but when I put it on it turns out it doesn't wrap over enough to make it decent enough to wear over tights for work, so I had to make a quick decision about an alternative! This was the same colour scheme (black/white/red) as the wrap dress, so it was just as easy.

Today was "Whirling Wednesday" for the fabulous Dressember facebook community - pick your most swirly twirly dress, and spin while you take your photo!

I had a couple of attempts, but got a bit dizzy and decided that would have to do! The funny thing is that there is not one photo on the facebook page without a great big grin to go with the swirling skirt :-)

The 4th day of Dressember already! Today is my Granny's 98th Birthday, and we had a family lunch out with her to celebrate :-) I wore this dress, which is sheer, with a little underdress. I popped on my burgundy tights for a change, and wore my rather comfy mary janes.

As it was rather chilly out I popped my trench coat over the top, with my lovely Blend scarf, and my rather "special" christmas badge!

I was rather pleased with this - it's a Christmas decoration from Accessorize, and I cut the hanger off, and sewed a safety pin on the back :-)

Kira decided to join in with Dressember as well today - I didn't realise how tall she was growing!

Day 3, first casual dress of the season.

Dressember, and taking photos of myself again, has already had a big impact on me. After looking at the photos I have made a decision. I have decided, that whatever the scales tell me, *this* is my goal weight!

I have been struggling to get back down to my previous goal weight for ages, well, in fact, since my 40th birthday! I've not been a particularly strict dieter, but even when I was, I could get this far, and no lower. I'm about 7lbs heavier currently than my goal weight.

So I have decided that actually I think I look pretty dang good at the moment - and maybe half a stone lighter would be too skinny. So, as of this morning, I reset my goal weight!

and actually, I feel gooooood :-)

Things are really hotting up on the Dressember front - we've been tweeting vigourously using #Dressember, and we've had a number of celebrity re-tweets :D

This is the fantastic new logo, designed by the very talented Alexandra King, and I'm so proud of the concept and the way people are joining in this year - I await to see how many people actually post photos tomorrow, I'm anticipating around 40, but there are nearly 600 people who have "liked" the page, and the chat is great! We are also producing pin badges in 5 different Alexandra designs, so we can identify other Dressember-ers if we pass in the street!

Is anyone planning on joining in? (even if just for a little bit?)

Even though it was dress-down day, I couldn't wait to wear my new-to-me-via-ebay Monsoon dress - which while it wasn't BNWT, I can't see that it's ever been worn :D (and it was a bargain!)

An online friend of mine, Melody, decided to try the longer short look earlier in the year, and a couple of days later I saw these in Tesco, and for just £6 I figured that they were worth a punt.

I've tried them on several times, but never actually worn them out - mainly because they are just too big for me on the hips. Today I tried them with the longer top, which disguised the excess material on the hips, and Kira admired them (which is saying something - she's usually very sniffy about my outfits, especially if they're anything she would consider out-of-the-ordinary!), so out of the house they went!

Went into the garden today to take my shots, just to make the most of the weather! It has been so cold and wet here recently - those of you who watch F1 can imagine what I say when I say the weather here yesterday was much the same as it was in Montreal! Wet, very wet, and cold :-(

I standing very proudly next to my white carnation - he was bought a couple of years ago as a tiny little thing, I then ignored him all winter, and his 5 other bedding plant tray companions all passed away during the long cold winter. He was obviously a hardy little soul, as he survived another long cold winter last year, and this year has blossomed into this beauty!

Also on show is the beautiful swarovski crystal my hubby bought me back from his week away - see how it turns into a disco ball in the sunshine :-)

Slightly tenuous today, but the background of the skirt is grey, not black, honest!

I've only worn the skirt with black in the past, but decided to try it with a completely different colour today, and decided to go for green!

I absolutely chucked it down with rain on my home today, and my feet and skirt got very very wet! At least barefeet dry quickly, when compared with feet in tights.

Dropping in for the Royal Wedding

It's been a while (we're going Internet free for a couple of weeks, except for whatever I can do through my iPhone, so I'm a little bit limited!) but a didn't want to let the occasion of a Royal Wedding, on a Frocking Friday, pass by my blog without a post.

Back in Dressember we had a Wedding Dress day, but my wedding dress had, according to my Mum, been thrown out during a clear out, she thought.

We went over to her house to watch the wedding with her and her neighbour (who I grew up with), and after the ceremony I decided to go into her loft myself and see what I could find!

It was there! Yellowing and crumpled, but very much still in existence! Also in the suitcase was my sister's bridesmaid dress (liberty print, don't ya know!) and her silk flowers.

Obligatory early 90's big bottom bow!

Please bear in mind Kira is 11, and my sister was 20 when she wore this!

I've been trying to increase my summer skirt collection via ebay, and this was one of my recent purchases - I'm really pleased with it - when I received it it was ironed flat, but it is actually a puffball shape and the bottom, but with closed pleats at the top, so it's a beautiful shape.

Monday again! Return of an old favourite - it's first outing this year without a long-sleeved top underneath!

Also the first blog outing of my new necklace - I've been hankering after this for a long time - a necklace with initials of both girls on it - and my Mum and Sister gave me some money for my birthday, so this was the time! I found the beautiful Silver By Mail website - and I could have spent my life savings there :D A few people have been a little confused, and have asked if my hubby is called Richard! I have explained that no, these are the initial of my girls! I have also ordered a bracelet length chain, so I can put the initials onto it if I fancy a change.

We got word on Tuesday that there would be some very senior politicians visiting our hospital on Wednesday, so I decided to dress for all occasions!

I covered all bases - Blue for Conservative, Yellow for the Lib dems, and Red just so Labour didn't feel left out!

It was very exciting, although I didn't get to meet David Cameron (Prime Minister) and Nick Clegg (Deputy Prime Minister), a lot of my colleagues did - I know all the people in the pictures here :-)

I'm going to blame Sheila again - more Leopard Print!!

S had left the house ridiculously early last Saturday morning, waking me up on his way out, so I gravitated to ebay on my iphone!

Perhaps unsurprisingly, nobody else seemed to be bidding at 7.10 am on a Saturday, so I picked up this and another dress, for under £5, including p&p :-)

I'd picked up this one several times in Next before Christmas, but decided I didn't like it enough to spend £25, but for £1.99 I was more than happy! (and actually I like it enough now it's on I think I probably would have spent £25 had I ever tried it on!) (I would also like to point out that it's only see through in the photos, in real-life you actually can't see my bra!).

Frocking Friday - Spring Theme

Pleae rest assured I did sort my hair out after seeing the photos this morning!

We seem to be loosing a little bit of momentum over at Frocking Fridays so we agreed a "spring" theme this week - the weather has been unseasonably warm this week (19 degrees today - no coat required :D).

I failed miserably - it was dress down Friday at work, otherwise I'd have worn my black wrap dress with the yellow flowers - but I did wear a frock, and to make up for it's lack of springiness I wore a l'occitane perfume called "cherry blossom" :-) After work I even got my photo taken in front of the beautiful cherry tree outside of our house! Our street is lined with cherry trees, and it looks lovely right now :D (ours is definitely the smallest - always has been - I don't know whether it was a replacement at some point - the others are definitely more mature).

This dress was a big hit during Dressember, and was voted (by you, lovely readers!) as the best dress from week 3 (which reminds me, I promised you a best of the best vote, didn't I?!).

I re-discovered it last week during a bit of a wardrobe clearout (2 black bin bags on their way to the charity shop!), and both girls said how much they liked it and that I should wear it again!

It's denim, so I'm not entirely sure it should be a work outfit, but I think it's smart enough you can overlook the fact that it's denim!

Another birthday present here - some of my oldest friends clubbed together and bought me this beautiful swarovski crystal bangle for my birthday. Unforunately it didn't sit quite right on my wrist (and was also a bit "bling"to wear in the daytime, even for me!), and seeing how much they had very generously spent on me (they very kindly provided the reciept in case it wasn't quite my thing!) I decided to swap it for something that I would get to wear more regularly :-)

I picked up this skirt in Zara on my birthday shopping trip this week (just £5.99 on their clearance rail!), and tried it a couple of times last week with various tops, but just wasn't feeling it. Decided to give it one more whirl this morning with a matching tank over the top, and I think it worked :D

12th March - Party Special!

Hey, I'm 40! I had a party! I wore sequinned zebra print!

I saw this dress in the Next sale at the beginning of last year - £40, reduced from £90. I tried it on, I loved it, I couldn't justify it - I had no events planned, and it was a little expensive and daring to just hang in my wardrobe!

So this year I was planning my party, and, as you can imagine, one of the top things on my list was to find a frock! I scoured ebay, and purchased a beautiful brocade strapless dress with a tulip bottom, in plain black. It's lovely.

Then, when scouring ebay (as I do on an occasional basis when I've nothing better to do!) I randomly typed in "Dress Next size 10", and up popped *the* zebra dress! 21 minutes to go, no bids, £15 starting price.

It was fate! and 21 minutes later it was mine, for the starting price :D:D

I felt amazing in it all evening - I glittered and sparkled my party away :D

Well, that's it, I have arrived!

Fabulous at Forty (well, that's what one of my cards said anyway, lol!)

I had a fabulous day - lots and lots of wonderful pressies, a lovely relaxing day wandering round the shops by myself, shopping only for myself (other mothers out there will realise what an absolute treat this is!), then out for a family meal with S, the girls and my Mum last night.

The main thing I was shopping for yesterday were shoes for my party on Saturday night. I've got a rather *special* dress for the event, and needed shoes (the dress is so *special* it really doesn't need much accesorising!). I found these in Next - enormous platforms means that the heels aren't actually that high, resulting in them being really relatively comfortable (come back to me on Sunday morning on that one!).

For the meal out I decided to wear my new ebay purchase! I'd seen somebody on TV wear a dress in this fabric several years ago, and loved it - and, inspired by a lovely friend Sharon who sells beautiful handmade items in her misi shop, (and sent me a wonderful iphone cover for my birthday!) I did a quick ebay search - and this dress caught my eye! 24 hours later, and not too expensively, it was mine! (all mine.... evil laugh!)

1st March - Pink!

The bags are still there, but today I have become more used to seeing my face in a mirror without the glasses. It's been 4 days now, and I actually wore my glasses for the first time this evening on the way back from the gym (it was dark, and things really do get blurry when it's dark!) - and they felt heavy and uncomfortable.

People are commenting - they either think I've got contacts, or I've had laser treatment - but in fact I'm too much of a wuss for either! (particularly laser treatment! but on that thought, what would have happened if I'd had laser treatment, and then my eyes improved as they have? I would have qualified - my prescription hadn't changed for more than 10 years prior to Friday!)

This dress is sooo comfy, and it has pockets. Comfy and pockets, what more could a girl want on a day in the office with no meetings? :-)

There are bags under my eyes that my glasses used to hide, and there are wrinkles, and, and, and....... gah!

I always mocked people who wore glasses with plain glass in them just for the way they looked, but I am so close to being one of those people, and I didn't know I would be!

24th February - a little early to the Leopard Party

The extremely gorgeous Sheila has decreed that next week is "leopard print" week.

I couldn't wait that long, and had to give my newly acquired via ebay top an outing on Thursday!

If I'd have tried this on in the shop I don't think I'd have bought it (£25 new) - I wasn't sure on the shape, and it didn't come with the belt. But for just £5 on ebay, and took a punt - although I nearly chickened out on Thursday morning, until both girls reassured me it was nice (a rarity - Kira in particular is a big critic of my, what she considers, "out of the ordinary" dress sense!)

I did feel somewhat as if I were channelling Chrystal Charrington (was she Dynasty, or Dallas? Dynasty I think!) - but lots of people made nice comments about it at work!

Maybe a red belt next time, to jazz it up a little!

Frocking Friday - week 8

Very comfy, but not terrifically exciting this week!

I had the day off work - took the girls to see Gnomeo and Juliet, which was actually better than I was anticipating!

We then went to the opticians for us all - I'd not had my eyes tested since I got these glasses about 4 years ago, and as the arms are getting wobbly I thought it about time I went and treated myself to some new glasses. I'd decided I was going to treat myself to some new prescription sunglasses too - but I was in for a surprise! My eyes have actually improved, and I no longer need to wear my glasses! She said I will probably still want to for driving in the dark, but I'm legal to drive without them again! I've ordered myself some new glasses with my new, minimal, prescription - but hopefully won't need to wear them much - although i'm going to need to get used to seeing my face without glasses - I've been wearing them since I was 21! Rhian's prescription changed as well, and Kira now needs them for seeing the board at school :-(

What I'm really, really, looking forward to is shopping for new sunglasses - I used to love shopping for sunnies at the beginning of each summer - which was knocked on the head when I needed prescription sunglasses - but now I can just buy cheapies the world is, once again, my sunglasses oyster :D

Pre-40's daftness!

I have been frocking on Fridays, I promise, and I have photos, which I will hopefully post shortly! With the extra hours I'm doing at work I've lost my pre-kids home time blogging window - I will be back, I promise!

In the meantime I'll leave you with some photos from my latest challenge! It's not clothes related, so shouldn't strictly be posted here, but it's cheering me up so I thought I'd share!

I'm now in the last month of my thirties, and I've decided to celebrate by doing something daft everyday, photographing and posting in Facebook!

Day 4 - ride a kid's scooter around the block!

28th January - Frocking Friday Week 4, and an update from the week!

Frocking ladies, the things I do for you! Today was dress-down day at work, and I wanted to debut my skinny combats, so, especially for you, I popped on my one and only dress which didn't make a Dressember appearance!

The colour doesn't show particularly well in the photos, but it's a lovely "cadbury" purple - and it's silk.

While I had it on I was contemplating it's abilities to be my big four-oh! birthday party dress in March - and I'm planning on a lot of dancing - so I put it through it's paces!

I'll keep looking for another dress - but knowing that this is here as a back-up will take the pressure off somewhat!

Monday saw complete re-styles for both girls at the hairdresses - very brave on both their parts, and I gave them a lecture before they went that any wailing would not be accepted, as, quite frankly, there would be nothing we could do about it after the event, and wailing wouldn't make it grow back any faster, so was therefore a waste of time. Thankfully both girls are over the moon with their new looks :D

Yes, I know it was just yesterday I told you I was having a blog-cation! But I just wanted to share these trousers with you!

I saw the fantastic Style Underdog wearing a pair of skinny combats a while ago, and thought...... Hmmm, I like those. I happened to see a pair in Sainsburys about 3 months ago - but they never had my size, although I looked every time I went food shopping!

I just happened to be in Sainsbury's, browsing their sale rail the other evening, and there they were, sitting there in a 10 long, with my name on them! They were coming home with me, it was written in the stars!

So in my mind, I am most definitely channeling Style Underdog, in reality......? Hmmm, well I'm not she has ever managed to simultaneously chop the top of her head and her foot off in the same photo (no, it's not dodgy cropping!).

But we were off to see the hilarious Rhod Gilbert - and he was hilarious - my cheeks were aching after so much laughter - highly recommend it if he's ever in your area.

14th January - Frocking Friday Week 2

Last week on Frocking Friday the ever-glamourous, always humourous, beautiful Amber posted her Frocking Friday pictures. She was posing on a wall, with a beach in the background.

Today I decided to shake things up a bit, and decided I too should pose on a wall. Sadly I was somewhat limited to venue of said wall, as well as time, so was in my rather untidy garden, in the grey gloom of early morning, with my decrepid garage in the background (and a random beach bucket - don't ask, I just don't know!), with a 10 year old photographer. There's no wonder I don't look as glamorous as Amber (well, that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!)

6th January - Another Dress!

I started working my extra hours this week - I've gone from 4 hours a day, to 6 - after 10 years of only doing 4 it's a bit of a shock to the system! As you can see from the rather weary me!

I completely forgot to take a photo on Tuesday, but I was wearing my Dotty P's pin stripe dress with the purple cardi and belt, and black tights, with brogues. Wednesday I had the day off with Kira and went sales shopping - and came away with nothing! I was wearing a particularly uninspired jeans/t-shirt combo, which was absolutely not blog-worthy!

How sad am I that Dressember is over! We stayed overnight at the party, and I took my jeans with me to wear this morning - and really, I'm missing my dresses already!

I can't believe we're so close to the end of Dressember!

I was briefly wistful for my jeans a couple of days ago, but right now, I wouldn't mind terribly if someone told me I was to wear nothing else but dresses for everymore!

I personally think this challenge has been easier to do in the winter - I'm a big fan of tights, I think they're fantastically cosy, and certainly I've been out in them in more snow and ice than I've been out in before (although we've not been out and "played" in the snow - it's just walking to get places!) and I've not been any colder than I would have been in trousers. Also, I feel, at my age, that the length of alot of my dresses would be inappropriate without leg coverings!

It hadn't really occured to me that I've got no dresses that are any longer than knee length, and most are above the knee (some significantly so! - S is most appreciative of these dresses!).

Anyway, down to the last 5 days - just 4 after today - I'm into repeats - so would anyone like to make a request? (comfy dresses only please - I'm on holiday!!)

This was another ebay purchase - although when it arrived I tried it on and Rhian said "it's a sack, but a pretty sack" - so I have my Mum alter it! She put in 2 darts both front and back, to give it a bit of shape under the bust, and took in about 2 inches either side! It's a size 10!

My boots are back! I'd forgotten about them, and was surprised all over again when I unwrapped them!

Oh dear, the morning after the night before! I was just tired, as I volunteered to drive, and there was only me and one other lady there who remained sober - everyone else was either walking home or staying at the hotel - I had a fantastic time though - I don't actually need a drink to dance my socks off (well, dance my shoes off - literally - my lovely party shoes are half a size too big, and I'd forgotten to put my "party feet" back in them before I went, and I need both them and heel grips to keep them on my feet!) I re-discovered the joys of dancing in flats (or stockinged feet!) though - and next time I go dancing I fully intend to wear flat shoes!

Another repeat today - but worn quite differently! This belt was my secret santa present from work - I was rather specific as to what I wanted (we give suggestions!), and it's the same as my lovely yellow one - I did give santa a choice of colours though - purple, green, pink, red or silver - and I think this was a fantastic choice!
